A true mining professional
After working in mines for seven years, Sachdev joined SEPL as Technical Assistant to the Chief Executive in August 1975. He will be completing 40 years with this organisation in August this year.
Sachdev is now heading the company?s Equipment Division and is responsible for the marketing of earthmoving, mining and construction equipment of imported origin to civil contractors like Larsen & Toubro (L&T), Hindustan Construction Co (HCC), Gammon India, etc. During his tenure, Sachdev has been in contact with major civil contractors as well as project authorities, including the mines operated in public sector, recommending to them the latest equipment from Europe and Canada.
He was responsible for introducing TAMROCK drilling jumbos manufactured in Finland and sold more than 60 units to various organisations. Also introduced for the first time in India was the tunnel loading equipment from Germany, a specially designed equipment to be used in small and medium-sized tunnels, where normal excavators are not able to perform due to limited size of the tunnel. The ITC Schaeff?s tunnel loading equipment reduces the mucking time by almost 60 per cent and these units are successfully operating in most of the major hydro electric projects for construction of tunnels.
In 2003, he started marketing Chinese equipment, including wheel loaders, motor graders, crawler and tower cranes, pipe layers, etc. He also introduced bitumen drum melting units and emulsion plants manufactured by Massenza Srl Italy for the road construction industry.
