BEML?s windmill park dedicated to nation
BEML Ltd has set for itself an unique goal of utilising 100 per cent renewable energy for its consumption. In this endeavour, the company?s 9 MW windmill park installed at Dammur village, Bagalkot district in Karnataka was dedicated to the nation by the Defence Minister Arun Jaitley through video-conferencing from Delhi. Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Subhash Bhamre, has graced the occasion as Guest of Honour in the presence of AK Gupta, Secretary (Defence Production), Government of India and Deepak Kumar Hota, Chairman & Managing Director, BEML. Other dignitaries including Directors of DPSUs and OFB have also present during the dedication programme.
The 9 MW windmill being commissioned will be generating electricity to power the manufacturing units of BEML located at Kolar Gold Fields, Bangalore and Mysore. Apart from this, BEML has already installed a 5 MW windmill project at Kappatagudda in Gadag district of Karnataka and utilising the power generated through this windmill since 2007, with this almost 68 per cent of energy needs of the company will be met through green energy.
After the commissioning, the balance windmill projects on the anvil, BEML is to produce substantial units of electricity and reduce carbon footprint by mitigating large quantum of carbon dioxide from the environment every year. With this, BEML?s electricity consumption requirement will be totally met with renewable energy.
