Compressed Air Power
With government focusing on infrastructure creation and development, construction and mining are expected to grow in the coming days, which means more compressed air power requirement.

Portable air compressors play a pivotal role in quarrying and mining applications. They are also important in many construction activities also. The quarrying application specifically, is a segment of paramount importance, looking at the amount of stone which is required for infrastructure projects. Similarly, the extraction of minerals such as iron ore, gold etc with reliable portable air compressors with the lowest possible energy consumption is an important application under metal mining.

Says Nitin Lall, General Manager, Power Technique Customer Center, Atlas Copco (India) Ltd, 'We cannot ignore that customers are also scaling up in terms of quality and service expectations, and we will continue to provide them with the time-tested Atlas Copco technology. Atlas Copco is a big investor in R&D in India. As leaders in innovation, we focus on localisation and developing new technology.

Demand trends
Mining, quarrying and waterwell are the three major segments of portable compressor business. According to Lall, with the revival in the mining and quarrying segment, there is continued demand for portable compressors. Besides this, the waterwell segment also contributes to the demand of large compressors for borewell applications.

Demand for air compressors has been consistently growing in the last two years and is expected to remain buoyant in the near future. Says Ramesh Ponnuswami, Executive Director, Elgi Equipments Ltd, 'The last 2-3 years has seen road construction, irrigation projects etc all picking up at rapid pace. This trend is likely to continue with the Central Government keen on continuing the momentum into the election year in 2019.'

Outlook positive
Looking at the future trends, Ponnuswami adds, 'Infrastructure boom is likely to sustain well into the next decade, especially with thrust on tier-II and tier-III cities, and the all-important rural infrastructure development. This will eventually spur core sector growth of which infrastructure is a key component.' Lall says, 'Expectations from the Indian market is focused on contributing to Indian infrastructure projects by offering products which meet our customer's needs and ensures them long term benefits. India is a growing economy, and looking at the overall infrastructure requirements coming up, we expect this healthy trend to continue in the next five years as well.'
