Danfoss setting new standards for safety & sustainability of metros
In line with its commitment to enable India’s journey towards sustainable urbanisation, Danfoss Industries, a pioneer and industry leader in energy efficient technologies, strives to transform the sustainable outlook for metros in India, in association with metro rail corporations across the country.
In its latest partnership with the Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC) and Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) the company is offering cutting edge Drives solutions of varying capacities, to enhance the safety, comfort, energy efficiency, sustainability, and reliability of metro networks. Danfoss designs are unique, as they not only ensure safety and protection of the equipment, but also help Metros meet their sustainability goals by reducing their overall carbon emissions and energy footprint. At both the KMRC and CMRL projects, the installation of Danfoss Variable Frequency Drives has contributed to 15 to 25 per cent energy savings across various applications.
“In a rapidly urbanising world, concerns of energy efficiency and carbon emissions have become paramount. In this regard, making urban mobility sustainable and climate friendly is a critical element in paving the way for sustainable urbanisation in India. Danfoss’ domain expertise in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning solutions (HVAC) for metro applications comes from years of experience having worked closely with metro projects both in the domestic and global markets such as Dubai, China, USA, Singapore etc. making Danfoss an ideal solutions provider. Through our projects, we are proud to support the nation’s infrastructure requirements with our highest standard of efficient technological interventions to keep our metros safe and sustainable”, said Ravichandran Purushothaman, President, Danfoss Industries, India Region.
The first Danfoss Drives Solutions package of 400+ IP55 drives for Chennai Metro Rail was commissioned in 2013 as part of Phase I of the project, wherein 100 percent of all Drives requirements for the project were fulfilled by the company. Since then, Danfoss India has provided 500+ units of Variable Speed Drives Solutions to CMRL. Through the course of the Danfoss’ project with Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC) which commenced in 2019, over 80+ units of variable speed drives solutions have been delivered till date. These drives solutions are integral to various applications such as tunnel ventilation fans, trackway exhaust fans, chillers, pumps, air handling units, etc. among several others.
“Danfoss has been associated with metro corporations since the beginning of the first metro project in India – Phase 1 of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Since then, the association has continued to many more prestigious projects such as Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC), Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC), DMRC – 1, 2 & 3, CMRL, etc. – to name a few. Today, Danfoss commands a +90 per cent market share across various metro projects in India, due to our strong value propositions,” says Palanisamy Lakshman, Head – Danfoss Drives Sales, Marketing & Service.
Danfoss’ top technology– the IP 55 Drives, provided for most metros in India – are highly customisable for tunnel ventilation applications typically required in metro applications. The IP 55 Drives provide the best in-class energy performance index for metro stations and user-friendliness while providing optimal temperature control, comfort, and safety. Further, these are also suited to the specific needs of the climactic and harsh environment conditions across India, particularly with regards to the wide variations in ambient temperatures and installation locations.
