New energy equipment at BICES 2023
The just-concluded BICES 2023 had an exhibition area exceeding 150,000 square meters and attracted over 1,300 exhibitors in the construction machinery industry. It hosted hundreds of industry forums. In terms of both scale and effectiveness, it set new records in the 30-year history of the event. Industry experts have praised BICES 2023 for not only showcasing the progress and evolution of the new energy construction machinery market but also demonstrating the industry's ability to create core products to meet the ever-changing market demands, backed by strong industrial foundations and innovation capabilities within the industry.
BICES (China Beijing International Construction Machinery, Building Material Machines and Mining Machines Exhibition & Technology Exchange) has clearly become a significant platform and support for the construction machinery industry's transition to the new energy era.
Under the drive of "dual carbon" goals in the era of carbon peak and carbon neutrality, seizing the opportunities of the dual carbon era, bridging the new energy technology chain, and covering the full range of new energy main engines have become the imperative path for innovation in construction machinery technology products. This trend was particularly evident at BICES 2023.
As the exhibitor with the largest booth area at BICES 2023, LiuGong showcased 43 products with extending human strength as the theme, including 16 electric series products and 3 hybrid power products, demonstrating LiuGongs core capabilities in intelligent green machinery that extend human capabilities. At the LiuGong booth, the first commercial unmanned autonomous electric loader was demonstrated in a live broadcast format, showcasing its intelligent and highly efficient autonomous operation, winning the approval of the on-site audience.
Zoomlion has already achieved the groupification of new energy development, with more than 100 new energy products rolled out. Among the 19 products displayed at BICES 2023 in three major categories, 10 are new energy products. This includes electric and electric dragline excavators, sliding loaders, etc. These products not only offer the advantage of zero emissions and reduced operating costs but also feature multiple safety protections such as leakage protection, highlighting their safety and environmental advantages.
Zoomlion's two hybrid electric crane products can switch between oil and electric power freely, support multiple current selections, and excel in noise reduction and maneuverability, significantly enhancing operational comfort. Their high cost-effectiveness and high return have earned them praise from many users.
Among Sany's 22 exhibited equipment, 13 were electrified products, accounting for over 50%, making them the absolute protagonists. The Sany SW956E electric loader, with a rated load capacity of 5.8 tons, features a self-developed VCU control system and electric drive powertrain, matched with a two-speed sleeve gearbox and single-handle pilot control system, combining the stability of traditional loaders with the rapid response of pure electric loaders.
In 2023, Sany completed the development of more than 50 electrified products, launched 40 electrified products, introduced the first fully electric-controlled rotary drilling rig, the first pure electric telescopic boom crawler crane, and the first hydrogen-powered mixer truck. They also overcame more than 20 key electrification technologies, contributing to the growth of electrified products in the first half of 2023 against the trend.
During BICES 2023, XCMG introduced 15 new energy main engine products, accounting for about 60% of the total exhibited products. Notably, the XCA300L8-HEV, a hybrid full-surface crane that can run efficiently on electricity, showcased significant operational cost savings.
XCMG also presented a new range of large-tonnage high-voltage lithium-ion forklifts under its Peacock series, the 105-ton electric mining truck XGE105, the first pure electric unmanned three-axle rigid mining truck XDR80TE-AT, the XC968-EV electric loader, the XE215E electric excavator, the HB62VH plug-in hybrid pump truck, and the G4802BIIVE pure electric mixer truck. These new energy main engine products from XCMG displayed their diversity and excellence, reflecting XCMG's commitment to green development. XCMG's semi-annual financial report for 2023 showed a 174.9% year-on-year increase in revenue from new energy products.
With a theme of "Green Equipment, Smart Future," Taihe Group, as the eldest son of the nation, revealed its ambition to enter the construction machinery industry at BICES 2023. It launched a series of independently developed new energy and intelligent high-end products, researching and developing hybrid power, electric, hydrogen, methanol-powered equipment, and more. According to Taihe Group, they have the world's largest single-factory smart excavator factory with the most comprehensive processes, and they are building the industry's most advanced flexible, green, and intelligent engineering crane smart manufacturing base. Based on the new industrial development pattern of "one headquarters, multiple parks" and the technical R&D system of "one focus, one center, multiple bases," they are fully committed to creating ten series of new products, forming an advanced equipment manufacturing industry cluster.
Pure electric, hydrogen-powered, and hybrid new energy construction machinery have already seen successful applications, gaining recognition not only in the domestic market but also in international markets. According to incomplete statistics, BICES 2023 not only featured exhibitions from leading domestic construction machinery main engine brands like LiuGong, Sany Heavy Industry, Zoomlion, XCMG Group, Anhui Heli, Hangcha Group, Tiangong Heavy Industry, Lingong Group, Taiyuan Heavy Industry, Zhanyang Heavy Industry, Jingu New Energy, Zhejiang Dingli, CRRC Equipment, and CCCC Tianhe but also active participation from foreign main engine companies such as Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hyundai DHE, Jining Maisburl, and Hitachi Construction Machinery.
