Supporting waste recycling
Repurpose It is using new technology to recycle huge quantities of material for re-use in the construction industry. The company has selected five new machines from Volvo Construction Equipment to help with loading and handling duties.

Repurpose It is one of the few businesses that creates value from waste in Australia. The company is passionate about enhancing sustainability in the construction industry and has invested in a series of new technologies to ensure the country's building industry can reuse more waste than ever before. To run material handling duties at this ground-breaking facility in Epping, Victoria, the company has selected five machines from Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE).

There are three excavators at the plant, an EC250DL and two EC220DL units. Their work includes general earthmoving duties on the developing site, as well as feeding screens, along with sorting and stockpiling building rubble. For loading work, Repurpose It opted for two wheel loaders, an L110F and an L220H. The former provides quick and easy operation, while the latter's 32-tonne classification makes it the heavy hitter of the site. The superior lift capabilities of the L220H are utilised in all load-and-carry duties for heavy materials. The L220H is also used for feeding the hopper at the new recycling plant.

George Hatzimanolis, CEO of Repurpose It, said Volvo Group's core value of environmental care meant the company was a natural partner for his business. "We chose Volvo as our equipment partner because we feel we have an alignment with the company's commitment to energy efficiency and its engineering values,ö he said."Our business is focused on reducing our carbon footprint and working towards a more sustainable future, as is Volvo. We were also attracted to the quality that comes with Volvo machines."

The upgraded 22-tonne EC220DL crawler excavator boasts 10 per cent more fuel efficiency than alternatives thanks to its premium Volvo D6 diesel engine. For the 25-tonne EC250DL productivity is a standout feature with the 138 kW Volvo engine capable of delivering engine speeds of up to 1,800 rpm for faster cycle times. The 18-tonne L110F wheel loader offers improved power and speed with its new generation of Volvo HTE 200 transmissions, while the heavyweight L220H features the OptiShift, technology that can reduce fuel consumption by up to 18 per cent.

Repurpose It purchased all its machines from CJD Equipment, Volvo CE's exclusive distribution partner for Australia."CJD has been the preferred equipment partner of Repurpose It since the business was established. They provide full service and after-sales support for our entire Volvo fleet," Hatzimanolis said.

Established in 2017, Repurpose It has introduced a number of global best practice recycling technologies, never before seen in Australia. These include the latest advanced washing and scrubbing technologies that allow the company to recover sand and aggregates from excavation waste - something that cannot be achieved with conventional equipment or quarrying methods.
