Technology week
Gates India conducted a technology week from 16 to 20 September, for its top- end users like JCB, Ashok Leyland, John Deere, Caterpillar, M&M and CNH, at different locations. During these meetings, the Gates global experts teamed up with local application and technical engineers to arrive at solutions to customers' product issues. Gates presented the technological advancements in motion technology, in line with its vision of being the partner of choice for its customers.
Day 1: The Gates team conducted a technology workshop at JCB, Ballabgarh and the teams shared best- in- class benchmarking. As a truly global supplier, Gates is working with JCB to benchmark its machines to reach the same aesthetics, performance and reliability levels as anywhere in the world by keeping local conditions in mind .Progressive improvements in FPM, hydraulic cleanliness levels and prototyping capability to support new global platforms were discussed and is already under implementation.
Day 2: The second day was reserved to allow interaction between the Gates team and the executive team of Ashok Leyland, Leyland Deere and CAT at Chennai. The latest technology in rigid tubing, quick lock and flexible and compact design features in hose assembly were discussed at length. Gates is present directly or through its distribution at these customers and strengthening of ties through direct participation was discussed to improve the quality, speed and performance of the hydraulic system.
Day 3: A day-long Technology Day was conducted at Mahindra & Mahindra in the Mahindra Research Valley, Chennai. In addition to presentations and exhibition of automotive technologies, some technologies on industrial side were also presented. Breakout sessions were conducted to discuss specific issues and possible solutions in line with the latest in technological advancements. Both Gates global as well as the India team were a part of this integrated Technology Day. Around 240 technical employees of M&M participated and increased their knowledge about Gates' technologies. The presentations included ECVT for GIO, Hot oil belt, electrical water pumps, belt-tensioners/idlers synchronisation, engine hose, clamps, hose and tubing technological advancements.
Day 4: The fourth day was spent at the customer plants of Eicher Motors, Pithampur, JCB Talegaon and MVML, Chakan where the Gates team did a walk-around and shared feedback with customers. Discussion at Eicher Motors ranged from AID, hot oil belt to start stop for smaller tonnage vehicle to power steering applications. Gates will offer system efficiencies analysis and will partner with them on new technology fronts (QuickLok, Sentry IQ, and tubing). Gates' plans to strengthen its presence in Pune were shared and welcomed by customers.
Day 5: On the fifth day, automotive expert team visited Tata Motors, Pune and the industrial expert team visited CNH, Pithampur to conduct a technology introduction workshop. While discussions at Tata Motors were centered on QMT, AID and Start Stop for low horse power engines, Gates superiority on products, new technologies, applications and capabilities were shared at CNH with team from sourcing, design, and product support. CNH put forth their expectations of Gates in the field of technology, product assurance and cost competitiveness. Opportunities in farm equipment as well as construction equipment were discussed in details and the path forward agreed upon.
